Smiley to Phins.
February 29, 2008Justin Smiley formerly of the 49ers has moved to the Dolphins.
The first of many, no doubt. Smart move by Parcells to go after linemen, which the Phins sorely need.
Will also be nice to see this franchise in a couple years start to challenge the Pats in that division.
Lions Defense Upgrading
February 28, 2008Dwight Smith signed with Motown today.
John Vilma, Dominique Foxworth, others are rumored.
Is it possible the Lions finally have a … haha, let me not get ahead of myself. Dwight Smith signed because he’s being well overpaid, and if Vilma does the same it’ll be because no one else likes his health, or is willing to pay him like he isn’t a risk. In other Lions news they released Fernando Bryant.
But the big news is… Free Agency comes in 14 hours!
Samuel a Saint?
February 26, 2008Rumors flyin’ like crazy at the combine. One of the latest is a more than 10mil per deal for Asante Samuel to play for the Saints. Not only would it continue a trend of talent migration to the NFC, it would put two dudes with locks across from each other and make the Saints an instant contender.
It would also erase the terrible Jason David signing from last year’s free agency, which was an embarrassment to New Orleans all season.
Another trend to point out in the NFC South is that since the Bucs won the superbowl, no team has repeated at first place two years in a row. If Samuel comes through it’d be a near-lock.
NFL Combine
February 26, 2008I’m getting all my blog shit set up and figure I’ll get into the dirtiness of the numbers during the slow months when we only have pro days to pay attention to. Initial reactions are Jake Long is a beast and Darren McFadden has wheels. And let’s quit the paternity test drama, if you can get it you should get it. He was doing his civic duty. Tom Brady and his sissy ankle agree.
NFL Cheer (Part 2 of 32) – Houston Texans
February 26, 2008NFL Cheer!
February 25, 2008Yes I’m that bored. NFL offseasons are a great time for reflection, thought, and checking out the cheerleaders you may have missed while paying attention to football. I’m going to be posting my favorite from each team around the league. I will evaluate them solely on their merits and assets, of course. Starting with my favorite team first.
Winter Survivor League
February 25, 2008Like many geeks, I participate in the virtual sport of imaginary football. In fact I am such a participant that I even do it during the NFL offseason, when the real players are only playing in Madden. The scoring format is points-per-reception, with 2 points being awarded to TE receptions. I’ve listed my team after the jump, along with the round they were taken and my position in that round. It’s a 16 team draft with 20 rounds. Read the rest of this entry »
